Two of Hearts: A Unique Illustration Inspired by "The Little Prince"

A Collaborative Project by Stefano Rosselli

Two of Hearts" is a vector illustration created for the collaborative project called "Luck of the Draw". The project, initiated and coordinated by Victoria Spady, brought together artists from around the world to create a unique deck of fifty-two playing cards.

The inspiration for the "Two of Hearts" illustration concept comes from the fox character in Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's fable, "The Little Prince". It serves as a subtle nod to the lesson the fox teaches about relationships. This idea was used to illustrate one of the meanings commonly attributed to the "Two of Hearts" playing card.

The strength and uniqueness of "Two of Hearts" lie in its artistic execution and the collaboration behind it. The illustration was created digitally using a vector graphics editing program, based on a pencil sketch. All visual elements in the image were created as vectors. Once the artwork was completed, it was rasterized before being provided to the project's coordinator.

Technical specifications for the "Two of Hearts" illustration include its creation in RGB color mode and ".ai" format. It was inserted into a template with dimensions of 63.5x88.9mm, adhering to the standard poker playing card size. The template was provided by the project's initiator and coordinator.

The "Two of Hearts" illustration is not only a visually appealing piece of artwork but also serves a functional purpose. It is part of a deck of playing cards, meant to be used in various card games.

The creative challenge for this project was to find a visually appealing solution that effectively conveyed the concept related to the card type, while maintaining legibility at a relatively small size. The design needed to fit within the standard poker playing card dimensions without affecting playability.

Stefano Rosselli holds the copyrights for the "Two of Hearts" illustration, created in February 2018, with the final printing on the playing card occurring in April 2018.

This unique illustration has been recognized for its creativity and ingenuity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category in 2020. This award honors designs that demonstrate outstanding technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
